ஐஐடி மெட்ராஸ் இயக்குநர் காமகோடி ‘கோமியம்’ குறித்துப் பேசியது பெரும் சர்ச்சையான நிலையில், “மாட்டுக்கறி சாப்பிடுவார்களாம். ஆனால், விஞ்ஞானப் பூர்வமாக ஆராய்ச்சி செய்யப்பட்டு மருந்து எனச் சொல்லப்படுகிற மாட்டின் சிறுநீரான கோமியத்தை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ள மாட்டார்களாம்” என்று அதை இன்னமும் ஊதிப் பெரிதாக்கியிருக்கிறார், பா.ஜ.க மூத்த தலைவரும் முன்னாள் ஆளுநருமான தமிழிசை சௌந்தரராஜன். இது தொடர்பாக, ஆயுர்வேத மருத்துவர் பாலமுருகனிடம் பேசினோம்.
`கோமியம் என்றால் என்ன?’
`பசுவின் சிறுநீரை இவர்கள் ‘கோமியம்’ என்று சொல்வதே சரியானதல்ல. பசுவின் மலத்தைத்தான், அதாவது சாணத்தைத்தான் சமஸ்கிருதத்தில் கோமியம் என்போம். ‘கோமூத்திரா’ என்பதுதான் பசுவின் சிறுநீரைக் குறிக்கும் வார்த்தை.’
`பசுவின் சிறுநீரைப் பிடித்து அப்படியே அருந்த வேண்டுமா… ஆயுர்வேதம் மருத்துவம் சொல்வதென்ன?’
“அப்படி செய்யவே கூடாது. ஆயுர்வேதம் மருத்துவம் அப்படி சொல்லவில்லை. ஆயுர்வேத மருந்துக்கலவைகளில் பசுவின் சிறுநீரும் ஒன்று என்றுதான் அது சொல்லியிருக்கிறது.”
` ‘கோமூத்திரா’வில் நிஜமாகவே மருத்துவ குணங்கள் இருக்கின்றனவா?’
`பசுவின் சிறுநீரில் மருத்துவ குணங்கள் இருப்பதாக ஆயுர்வேத மருத்துவ புத்தகங்களில் கூறப்பட்டிருப்பது உண்மைதான். பலவிதமான ஆயுர்வேத மருந்துகளுடன் பசுவின் சிறுநீரையும் ஒரு மருந்துப்பொருளாக பயன்படுத்துகிறோம். சில தனிமங்களை சுத்தப்படுத்தி மருந்துகளில் பயன்படுத்தவும் பசுவின் சிறுநீரை பயன்படுத்துகிறோம்.’
`பசுவின் சிறுநீர் என்னென்ன மருந்துகளில் சேர்க்கப்படுகிறது?’
`பசுவின் சிறுநீருடன் கடுக்காய் சேர்த்துத் தயாரிக்கப்படும் ‘கோமூத்ரா ஹர்தகி’ என்ற மருந்து வயிற்று உப்புசம், கல்லீரல் பிரச்னைகளுக்கு மருந்தாகப் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. பசுவின் பால், அதிலிருந்து தயாரிக்கப்படும் தயிர், நெய்யுடன் பசுவின் சிறுநீர், சாணம் ஆகியவற்றைக் கலந்தே `பஞ்சகவ்யம்’ தயாரிக்கப்படுகிறது. இது மூளை தொடர்பான நோய்களுக்கு மருந்தாகப் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. பசுவின் சிறுநீரைக் கொதிக்கவைத்து, அதன் நீராவியைச் சேகரித்து, அதிலிருந்தும் மருந்துகள் தயாரிக்கப்படுகின்றன. வேதிப்பொருள்களைச் சுத்திகரிக்க பசுவின் சிறுநீர் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. இனிமாவாகவும் ((Enema)) பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. நீண்ட காலமாக இருக்கிற சில பிரச்னைகளுக்கு, உதாரணமாக மூட்டு வலி போன்ற பிரச்னைகளுக்கு கொடுக்கப்படுகிற மருந்துகளில் பசுவின் சிறுநீரும் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. சரும வியாதிகளுக்கான வெளிப்புறப்பூச்சு மருந்துகளிலும் கோ மூத்திரம் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டு வருகிறது.’
`பசுவின் சிறுநீர் சேர்க்கப்பட்ட மருந்துகளை அனைவருக்கும் கொடுப்பீர்களா?’
`மாட்டோம். ஏனென்றால், கோ மூத்திரத்திரம் வெப்பத்தன்மை கொண்டது. அதனால், வெப்பத்தன்மை மிகுந்த உடல்வாகு கொண்டவர்களுக்கும், வாய்ப்புண், வயிற்றுப்புண் என்று இருப்பவர்களுக்கும் தர மாட்டோம்.’
`பசுவின் சிறுநீரை மட்டும்தான் பயன்படுத்துவீர்களா?’
“பசுவின் தலைமுடி தொடங்கி, சிறுநீர் வரை எல்லாவற்றிலும் மருத்துவ குணங்கள் இருப்பதாக ஆயுர்வேதம் சொல்கிறது. தவிர, வெள்ளாடு, செம்மறியாடு, எருமை, ஒட்டகம், யானை, குதிரை, கழுதை ஆகிய உயிரினங்களின் சிறுநீரிலும் மருத்துவ குணங்கள் இருப்பதாக ‘அஷ்டாங்க ஹ்ருதயம்’ என்ற ஆயுர்வேத நூலில் குறிப்புகள் உள்ளன. மருந்து என்று சொல்லும்போது, தாவரங்களுக்கு இடப்படுகிற எருகூட மருந்துதான். இந்த எருவை மலத்தில் இருந்தும் தயாரிக்கிறார்களே… இந்த உலகத்தில் மருந்துக்குப் பயன்படாத பொருள்களே இல்லை என்கிறது ஆயுர்வேதம்.”
“இந்தக்கால பசுக்களின் சிறுநீரிலும் ஆயுர்வேதம் குறிப்பிடும் அந்த மருத்துவ குணம் இருக்குமா?”
“அது சந்தேகம்தான். அந்தக் காலத்தில் இருந்த பசுக்கள் பசும் புற்களை மேய்ந்தன. இன்றைய பசுக்கள் போஸ்டரை தின்று பசியாறுகின்றன. அன்றைக்கு நிலம் மாசுபடவில்லை. அதில் முளைத்த புற்களும் சத்து நிரம்பி இருந்தது. இன்றைக்கு நிலமெல்லாம் மாசுப்பட்டுப்போய் கிடக்கின்றன. இதில் முளைத்த புல்லைத் தின்றாலும் பலனில்லைதான். இந்தவகையில் பார்த்தால், அன்றைக்கு கிடைத்த தரத்தில் இன்றைக்கு பாலே கிடைக்காதே…”
“எல்லா பசுக்களின் சிறுநீரையும் பயன்படுத்துவார்களா?”
“முதலில் அந்த பசு ஆரோக்கியமாக இருக்கிறதா என்பதை பார்க்க வேண்டும். தவிர, பசுவின் நிறத்துக்கேற்பக்கூட அதன் சிறுநீரின் குணாதிசயம் மாறுபடும் என்று ஆயுர்வேதம் கூறியிருப்பதால், எல்லா பசுக்களின் சிறுநீரையும் பயன்படுத்த முடியாது.”
“ஆயுர்வேத மருந்து தயாரிக்கும் நிறுவனங்கள் இதற்கென பசுக்களை வளர்பார்களா?”
“பசுவின் பாலை வைத்து நிறைய மருந்துகளை தயாரித்த காரணத்தால், ஒருகாலத்தில் ஆயுர்வேத மருந்துகள் தயாரிக்கும் கம்பெனிகள் பசுக்களை பராமரிக்கும் ‘கோ சாலை’யும் வைத்திருந்தார்கள். இப்போதைய நிலைமையை திட்டவட்டமாக கூற முடியவில்லை. ”
`பசுவின் சிறுநீரை எப்படி சுத்தம் செய்வீர்கள்? ’
“காலை, மாலை நேரங்களில் சேகரிக்கப்படும் பசுவின் சிறுநீரில் மட்டுமே மருத்துவக் குணங்கள் முழுமையாக இருக்கும். அதுவும், முதலில் வரும் சிறுநீரையும், கடைசியாக வரும் சிறுநீரையும் பயன்படுத்தக் கூடாது. இரண்டுக்கும் இடைப்பட்ட நேரத்தில் வரக்கூடிய சிறுநீரையே பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும். அப்படி சேகரிக்கப்பட்ட சிறுநீரை எட்டு மடிப்புகளாக மடிக்கப்பட்ட வெள்ளைத்துணியில் வடிகட்டியே பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும். சில நேரங்களில் கால்நடைகளுக்குத் நோய்த்தொற்று ஏற்படவும் வாய்ப்பிருக்கிறது. அதனால் பசுவின் சிறுநீர் பல்வேறு கட்ட பரிசோதனைகளுக்குப் பிறகே மருத்துவத்துக்குப் பயன்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும்.
உதாரணமாக ஈகோலை (E-COLI) போன்ற நோய்த்தொற்று எதுவும் இருக்கிறதா என்று பரிசோதித்த பிறகே மருந்து தயாரிக்கப் பயன்படுத்தப்பட வேண்டும். தவிர, சேரிக்கப்பட்ட சிறுநீரில் மருத்துவ குணங்கள் இருக்கின்றனவா என்பதையும் பரிசோதித்தப் பிறகே பயன்படுத்த வேண்டும். சட்டத்தால் அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்ட ஆயுர்வேத புத்தகத்தில் இருப்பனவற்றை தான் நாங்கள் செய்துகொண்டிருக்கிறோம்” என்று முடித்தார் கிறார் ஆயுர்வேத மருத்துவர் பாலமுருகன்.
Organic Cow Urine Komiyam: Does it really have medicinal properties? What does Ayurvedic medicine say?
IIT Madras Director Kamakoti’s controversial remarks on ‘Komiyam’ have further exaggerated the issue by saying, “They will eat beef. But they will not accept cow urine, which is scientifically researched and called a medicine, Organic Cow Urine.” We spoke to Ayurvedic doctor Balamurugan regarding this.
`What is Organic Cow Urine?’
`It is not correct for them to call cow urine ‘Komiyam’. Cow feces, i.e. dung, are called Komiyam in Sanskrit. ‘Gomutra’ is the word that refers to cow urine.’
`Should we drink cow urine as it is… What does Ayurvedic medicine say?’
“You should not do that at all. Ayurvedic medicine does not say that. Ayurvedic medicine It says that cow urine is one of the medicinal compounds.”
` Does ‘Organic Cow Urine’ really have medicinal properties?’
`It is true that Ayurvedic medical books state that cow urine has medicinal properties. We use cow urine as a medicine along with various Ayurvedic medicines. We use cow urine to purify certain elements and use it in medicines.’
`In what medicines is cow urine added?’
A medicine called 'Gomutra Hardagi', which is prepared with cow urine and mustard, is used as a medicine for stomach bloating and liver problems.Panchakavyam’ is prepared by mixing cow milk, curd made from it, ghee with cow urine and cow dung. It is used as a medicine for brain-related diseases. Medicines are also prepared from cow urine by boiling it, collecting its vapor. Cow urine is used to purify chemicals. It is also used as an enema. Cow urine is also used in medicines for some long-standing problems, for example, joint pain. Cow urine is also used in external ointments for skin diseases.’
`Do you give medicines containing cow urine to everyone?’
`No. Because cow urine is hot. Therefore, we do not give it to people with a hot body, or those with mouth ulcers or stomach ulcers.’
`Do you use only cow urine?’
“Ayurveda says that everything from cow hair to urine has medicinal properties. Apart from this, there are references in the Ayurvedic book ‘Ashtanga Hrudayam’ that the urine of animals like goats, sheep, buffaloes, camels, elephants, horses and donkeys also has medicinal properties. When we say medicine, we mean any medicine that is added to plants. This manure is also made from feces… Ayurveda says that there is nothing in this world that is not useful for medicine.”
“Does the urine of cows today also have the medicinal properties mentioned in Ayurveda?”
“That is doubtful. The cows of that time grazed on green grass. Today’s cows eat posters and starve. The land was not polluted then. The grass that sprouted on it was full of nutrients. Today, all the land is polluted. Even if you eat the grass that sprouted on it, it will not be beneficial. If you look at it this way, you will not get milk today of the quality that was available then…”
“Will they use the urine of all cows?”
“First, you have to see if the cow is healthy. Moreover, since Ayurveda says that the characteristics of its urine vary even according to the color of the cow, the urine of all cows cannot be used.”
“Do Ayurvedic medicine companies breed cows for this purpose?”
“Since many medicines were made using cow’s milk, Ayurvedic medicine companies once had ‘cow farms’ where cows were kept. The current situation cannot be stated definitively. ”
“How do you clean cow urine? ’
“Only cow urine collected in the morning and evening has its full medicinal properties. Moreover, the first and last urine should not be used. Only the urine that comes in between the two should be used. The urine collected in this way should be filtered through a white cloth folded in eight folds and used only. Sometimes there is a possibility of infection in cattle. Therefore, cow urine should be used for medicine only after various stages of testing.
For example, it should be used to prepare medicine only after testing for any infection like E-COLI. Apart from that, it should be used only after testing whether the collected urine has medicinal properties. We are only doing what is in the Ayurvedic book approved by law,” concludes Ayurvedic doctor Balamurugan.
