சீனாவைச் சேர்ந்த லியு என்ற 59 வயது பெண்மணிக்கு ஆண் மற்றும் பெண் இனப்பெருக்க உறுப்புகள் இருப்பது, நாடு முழுவதும் பேசுபொருளாகியிருக்கிறது.
அவரது அதிகாரபூர்வ ஆவணங்கள் அவரைப் பெண் என்கின்றன. அவருக்கு இரண்டு திருமணங்களில் இரண்டு மகன்கள் பிறந்துள்ளனர்.
அவரது முதல் திருமணம் ஓர் ஆணுடனும், இரண்டாவது திருமணம் ஒரு பெண்ணுடனும் நடைபெற்றுள்ளது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. அவர் அவரது ஒரு குழந்தைக்குத் தந்தையாகவும் மற்றொரு குழந்தைக்குத் தாயாகவும் இருந்துள்ளார்.

தென்மேற்கு சீனாவில் உள்ள ஒரு கிராமத்தில் பிறந்த லியு பெண்ணாகவே அறியப்பட்டுள்ளார். சிறுவயதிலிருந்தே வித்தியாசமான விருப்பங்களையும் பழக்கவழக்கங்களையும் கொண்டிருந்துள்ளார். மற்ற பெண்களிடம் இருந்து தனித்து முடியை ஆண்களைப் போல கத்தரித்துக்கொண்டுள்ளார், ஆண்களின் ஆடையை அணிந்து வந்துள்ளார்.

அங்கே ஜௌ (Zhou) என்ற உடன் பணியாற்றும் பெண் இவரைக் காதலிக்கத் தொடங்கியுள்ளார். ஆரம்பத்தில் தனது உடல்நிலையால் அவரது காதலுக்கு பதிலளிக்கத் தயங்கியிருக்கிறார் லியு. காலப்போக்கில் லியுவும் அவரை காதலித்துள்ளார்.
லியுவின் உடல் நிலை சிக்கல்களையும் கடந்து அவரைத் திருமணம் செய்துகொள்ள விரும்பியுள்ளார் ஜௌ. ஆனால் லியுவின் ஐடி கார்டில் பெண் எனக் குறிப்பிட்டப்பட்டிருப்பதனால் அவர்களது திருமணம் சட்ட சிக்கல்களை எதிர்கொண்டது. ஓர் பாலின திருமணங்கள் சீனாவில் ஏற்கப்படவில்லை என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

2005ம் ஆண்டு லியுவின் கதை ஒரு உள்ளூர் செய்தித்தாளில் வெளியானது. மொத்த சீனாவும் லியுவின் கதையைக் கேட்டு வியந்தது. அப்போது பல மருத்துவ நிபுணர்கள் லியுவின் உடலை இலவசமாக பரிசோதிக்க முன்வந்தனர். ஆனால் லியு அதற்கு மறுத்துவிட்டார். இன்றளவும் மறுத்து வருகிறார்.
தற்போது ஓர் ஆணாக பார்க்கப்பட்டாலும் லியு, செலவீனம் காரணமாக பாலின மாற்று அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்துகொள்ளவில்லை. இதனால் அவர் அடையாள அட்டைகளில் பெண்ணாகவே தொடர்கிறார்.
